3 Nickel Sulphide Resources1 Nickel resources are typically classified as sulphides or laterites. Approximately 73% of the world’s nickel resources are estimated to be contained in laterites while 27% are as classified as sulphide. Currently, some 37% of the world’s nickel supply is derived from sulphide resources and almost all
May 01, 2020· In the flotation process of serpentine-containing copper-nickel sulfide ore, serpentine slime coatings significantly reduced the flotation performance of copper-nickel sulfide. Sodium phytate is a highly effective dispersant for MgO control in the flotation of copper-nickel ore.
contaminate metallic mineral concentrates during traditional flotation of coarse sulphide particles. This could pose quite a complicated and challenging problem in the case of some types of low-grade and finely disseminated Cu-Ni ores bearing high serpentine contents. This is the case for the copper and nickel sulphides from the Yunnan Mine, China.
In nickel-copper sulfide ore processing, serpentine is a common gangue mineral encountered in complex sulfide ores and can easily cause entrainment during flotation [].Large amounts of serpentine in the flotation concentrate reduces the effectiveness of smelting, often resulting in the imposition of smelter penalties on mineral processing companies [].
Nickel processing - Nickel processing - Extraction and refining: The extraction of nickel from ore follows much the same route as copper, and indeed, in a number of cases, similar processes and equipment are used. The major differences in equipment are the use of higher-temperature refractories and the increased cooling required to accommodate the higher operating temperatures in nickel ...
Chlorite and serpentine are common magnesium-containing gangue minerals in copper sulfide flotation. In this study, sodium alginate, a natural hydrophilic polysaccharide, was introduced as a selective depressant for these gangue minerals. Micro-flotation tests were conducted on both single minerals and synthetic mixtures. The flotation results showed that sodium alginate could …
Oct 01, 2015· 1. Introduction. Serpentine is a magnesium-rich phyllosilicate mineral occurring in complex sulphide ores , .In nickel sulfide ore processing, serpentine may report to flotation concentrate through attachment to the valuable minerals as “slime coatings” , , .As a kind of magnesium silicate gangue mineral, large quantities of serpentine in flotation concentrates can cause problems …
Abstract: In nickel sulfide processing, magnesium silicates (serpentines) can easily form slime coatings or hetero-aggregation on pentlandite surfaces, and hence decrease the pentlandite flotation rate and recovery. In this work, magnetic separation of pentlandite from serpentine using selective magnetic

Jun 01, 2018· This size fraction corresponds to a P 80 of about 140 µm which is appropriate for flotation tests. The nickel head grade of samples L, I and S (at the −300 µm size fraction) was found to be 1.2%, 1.1%, and 3.0%, respectively. Nickel was found, more or less, at the same grade in all size fractions in these laterite ore samples.
A low-grade disseminated nickel sulphide serpentinite ore from W.A. had a relatively high permeability after drying. Various techniques indicated that the permeability resided within a fine network of fibrous vein- lets and especially within coarse cracks along which the sulphides lay. The ore minerals were therefore open to selective extraction by chemical leaching.
Results of research into low-grade rebellious copper-nickel ore are presented. The mineralogical analysis reveals features of material composition, which affect processing properties of the ore—fine primary dissemination, essential serpentinization and substitution of insets by magnetite, as well as considerable fine difficult-to-dissociate epigenetic impregnation.

the flotation recovery of Ni, Cu and Co from a nickel-copper sulphide ore. The effect on flotation performance of various parameters such as pH, collector dosage, % solids and depressant dosage at different levels was investigated. Therefore, the main objective of the study was to optimize the process parameters for the flotation of base metals ...
result in nickel losses into the tailings. This problem can be overcome by using depressants like car-boxymethylcellulose (CMC) and guargum deriva-tives, although their cost accounts for as much as 60% of the reagent cost incurred in the plant. Developments in Flotation Flotation of Nickel Sul\de Minerals
Nickel sulphide ore is mined at BHP’s open-cut and underground operations in the Northern Goldfields before it is crushed and concentrated at two large nickel concentrators using nickel sulphide flotation technology. The nickel concentrate is then dried and railed to the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter where it’s continuously fed to a flash furnace.
The useful minerals of Jinchuan high-grade copper and nickel suphfide ores were mainly nickel and copper, whose grade were respectively 1.42% and 1.01%. The content of MgO and SiO2, main gangue components, reached 57.89%. The key to improve the separation indexes of flotation concentrate was to inhibit the gangue minerals effectively, therefore, the effects of different kinds of regulators on ...

Ni-rich serpentine in the weathering profi-le of the Aguablanca Ni-Cu-(PGE) magma-tic sulphide deposit (Ossa Morena Zone, SW Spain) (e.g. Tornos et al., 2006 and references therein). The use of high-reso-lution techniques has allowed a detailed analysis of almost monomineralic areas of Ni-serpentine and the evaluation of the
